Each generated email password fails after a few hours

Made an earlier post (Saturday) about the fact I could not get into my Virgin Media O2 account and change the email App password. I did manage to get in the end get in and generated a new password and put in into Outlook 365 and it worked for a day.

Last night (Sunday) tried to log into my VM email via Outlook and it failed. Could only think that a password issue. So today (Monday 21/07) went in and generated a new App password. Bingo I can log in via Outlook.

But I return at 10.00 this evening I find I am thrown out again by Outlook again.

WHY is the App password not 'sticking' for more than 24 hours. It is a nonsense if I have to do a password change every other day.

Any thoughts...????

Thanks.

I suspect that the fact the you need to keep generating a new Mail App password is a symptom of an underlying problem with your VM account rather than a failure of the mail app password itself.

It's not clear from your post whether you can access the email account via the VM webmail account on the VM website. It would be useful to know that.

VM webmail uses your regular VM password, not the Mail App password so if you cannot access the webmail account it points to a recurring problem with the VM email account itself.

If you have not tried accessing webmail, the quickest way to access it is:

    • sign into your My Virgin Media account that you used to generate the new mail app password
    • then simply scroll down that first page to the "Quick links" section and click on "Virgin Media Mail".
    • That should take you straight in to your VM webmail account.

Does that work or do you get an error message at that point?

      Hi Thanks for your comments.

I can log into my VM web mail without any problems.

I not sure what else I can do to fix the problem with VM mail.

I've even speculated that Outlook 365 is corrupted in some way, as there are some posts on the Microsoft site (and elsewhere) about similar occurances with people unable to access their Gmail (and other email providers) accounts via Outlook. [There appear to be a range of possible issues with Outlook, Outlook Classic (i.e. 365) and earlier versions of it. These appear to run to corrupt profiles and bad Registry entries in Windows. ...and other Microsoft issues.]

Really don't want to mess around in Windows Registry if I can avoid it.

Currently I've only got my Virgin Media emails coming through Outlook. I suppose I could attach one of my 'backup' Gmail accounts to it to see if the problem replicates on Gmail.

      Advice welcome.

        I don't believe it!

Logged into Outlook [after posting my reply to coenoby] and my emails seemlessy downloaded! So perhaps there is something funny going on in the VM mail servers after all.

Just have to hope everything 'sticks' in the right place!
