desperate help - emails not available on iphones after virgin APP password change

honestly losing the will - got a new computer and to get emails on there I needed to generate a new password via the virgin app - copied it correctly - got the computer working, then the iphones stopped getting emails .

kept saying Password incorrect - enter password for the IMAP account "Virgin".

so, we have 3 iphones linked to this account ( plus an ipad ) - so put the newly generated password in from the virgin APP generated one - still didn't work.

Thought maybe I had written it down wrong as for a short period of time, when we took off wifi, we were getting the emails on 4 / 5 g.

Being stupid, I did another new password via the virgin app - actually took a picture of it this time to make sure I had everything right - managed to get the main computer working ok using the password, but yet again, none of the iphones are getting the emails - in fact it has got worse as in we aren't even getting them on 4/5g now either.

Have done absolutely everything the online chats say - turned off iphones and restarted - same with router - done several new passwords - even deleted the email account from one of the iphones and now can't readd it as it is saying "Virgin unavailable" - at absolute wits end - there are lots of chats on here about this, but I have not found a full solution that I have not already tried - help

  • Once you change the app password, leave it a while for the new password to replicate around the VM servers.  Also make sure you are logged out of your emails on all devices prior to this change.  After say, 15 mins, set the new password on each device and try to access.  You may have to remove the old client connections and setup again.

Note, this password for the mail clients is not the same as your Webmail access.

  • Thank you - I have tried leaving it for a while but I may have left the emails logged on - I have definitely done the right password as it it working on my main desktop without issue ( via outlook) - will post back to confirm if that worked ( I did try something similar yesterday - even to the point of turning off all iphones / ipads but no success - but desperate so will try again !)

Hi wookieb thanks for your reply, sorry this remains ongoing for you.

Please confirm if you still need help on this or if this is now resolved?

      Many thanks

  • Hi Adduxi - quick update !  Thank you - leaving it for a period of time did the trick - we ended up doing each phone / ipad about an hour apart and eventually everything fell into place.

We also worked out that we needed different app generated passwords for each of the secondary emails linked to the main account ( So you have to sign into my Virgin media for that particular email address - even though it is not the main one - and do the necessary re the external email address if you haven't already - then generate a new password just for that email address) - all done now - and we are all back to getting emails where needed.

Thanks again for your help !

Yes, that is correct.  There are no such thing as primary and secondary mailboxes any more.  VM changed this some time ago.  Every mailbox now needs a VMO2ID account, it's own password and a 3rd party email address for recovery purposes.

I would strongly suggest now you have access to consider moving your emails away from VM and migrate to another mail service that is NOT linked to an ISP.  I moved some time ago, and now I am free to move from ISP to ISP without worrying about my mailbox.  Given that VM have not given new users mailboxes for over 3 years now and they purge leavers mailboxes after 90 days, the mail system is only going one way.

  • My problem is the opposite, Outlook on my PC will not let me add my blueyonder email to it. i generated a new app password which worked on outlook on my iphone but not on the pc?

Remove the existing account on the PC Outlook and setup from scratch.
