Closing a virgin.net email account

Dear Virgin Media, I have an old virgin.net email account that I no longer use and would like to close it permanently. I believe is may be linked with an old Virgin Media account that I also no longer use, since migrating my mobile account to O2.

I have been unable to close the email account through the Virgin Media online account and the help pages don't appear to describe how to close such an email account after 90 days of not using Virgin Media. Please could you assist me in closing the email account to reduce spam and potential spoofing. Thanks. Andy
