O2 Sim Card

Virgin Media used to include the Sim card in packages a while ago, I`m sure that it was called Oomph package that I was on.  It then got taken out recently, so I then had to contact O2, as it was billed by them for £25 a month for unlimited data/mins/texts.  I now have my 4 x family mobile plans on 2 year deals for £10 a month for 10gb, doubled with the volt perk.  I am up for renewal in August and do not want to go anywhere near this free sim card adding £25 to the package?  Is their anyway that you can swap that out and add TNT Sports instead?  If this is not the case, I will either have to drop down to a lower package or go elsewhere for my provider.  Why on earth do they keep changing the sim card addition?  It`s probably a good deal for high data users, but at £25 a month, if it`s that price now, is not needed by me.  Just be aware that you will be billed by O2 for the sim card and Virgin Media for the rest of your package.  Also I enquired about what was on offer for my renewal and was quoted £139 a month.  I currently pay £88, it was £79 when I renewed 16 months ago.  If I cannot get a good deal this time I will be going elsewhere.  Just seems a way to get as many people to have to use O2 as their mobile provider at a higher price sim card.  Let`s see what they can do for a 30+ year loyal customer, and someone that served his country for 27 years, never seen a discount for servicemen/veterans on discounts either?

    Hi PB649

You can move to a cheaper O2 sim without it affecting your VM Volt contract  ( I was on Ultimate oomph but it changed to Ultimate Volt) , however do a little homework first and check the pricing on the O2 website, and then compare that pricing on other sites.  The prices for new customers, and re-contracting customers via O2 direct are too expensive in my opinion.

You could keep your Volt benefits by purchasing a 32GB (other tarifs are also available) O2 sim which is currently £8.99 a month from uswitch <Here>

Since my O2 sim was out of contract when I went on uswitch.com, I noticed that you get the option to login to your O2 account, then if you select that you don't want a new SIM card sending out it lets you keep your current O2 number and starts a new 12 month contract at that new price which nulls out the £25 price you were paying O2 for the unlimited sim. (It's currently £31 on the O2 site for an unlimites sim

I changed my O2 sim via uswitch and am now paying O2 £10 a month for 50GB (boosted to 100GB)* prior to April this year.  It's now had the annual increase so it's £11.80 a month.  I'm waiting until my current VM Media discounts end in November then I'll renegotiate the TV, phone and broadband, and switch my O2 sim.   * If I currently switched to 50GB on the O2 site I would be charged £15 a month, and I would be charged £18 a month for a 100GB.  (If I use the upgrade option because I am out of contract with my sim then it would cost me £20 a month over 24 months for my 50GB (boosted to 100GB sim

  • Hello newapollo,

I just want my 4 x O2 contracts for my family members recently renewed for 18 months to be stand alone from my Virgin Media package.  As a customer of Virgin Media in all it`s guises going back to the day`s of Telewest, etc.. for over 30 years, it seems harder and more expensive to get a good retention deal now?  I watch more sport than anything, however, when I have tried to strip down and talk about the programmes I don`t need now, like kids, films, etc.. don`t really need a landline now, you get talked out of it, they tell you that it gets more expensive the more the take away.  16 months ago, I have 2 months left of this contract, I had the top package for £79 a month, which has now increased to £88 a month, with a saving of £100.  I`ve had another deal put to me for the Mega-Volt package for £119 a month.  I think that I can save quite a bit of money by getting my Broadband through TOOB for £25 a month and maybe a firestick for my TV services.  So have a decision to make by 15th July to see what`s offered or give my notice to cancel my Virgin Media.  Loyalty to one company is not the best way now, and not the cheapest, other providers are offering good services and luckily TOOB is available to me in my street.  I see loads of complaints and price increases mentioned on this forum, and lot`s of people moving away from Virgin.  Time will tell.
