Wifi Pod required

I'm setting up an office in my conservatory and have to rely on wifi. I've run a test using the app. It's hit and miss whether it connects at all, but when I do get a signal and run the test, it shows Download: 8 Mbps and upload 62 Mbps.  Could you please organise another wifi pod for me please.

  • Hi DazzyL

Thanks for posting and welcome back to the community.

    Sorry for any signal issues. There a few requirements when it comes to using Pods;

    •    The Hub must be in 'Router Mode' and not have been changed to 'Modem Mode'.
    •    Channel Optimisation must be left on.
    •    The SSIDs must be the same and broadcast enabled.
    •    The SSID must be password protected.
    •    The Passphrases of the SSIDs must match.

As long as all of the above points are all met then the Pod should automatically connect to your Hub's Wi-Fi and begin broadcasting. The wireless details from the Pod will be the same as the Hub's details, so no additional steps are required to connect the devices in the home.

From our diagnostic checks, the channels have been split so the current and any new Pods won't work. Please can you enable Smart WiFi and channel optimisation, then run the checks using the Connect App. This will also check for the ideal positioning of the current Pods.

  • If a device will not connect then you may have to move any existing pods or the router to get a pod in the conservatory to work.

It is not as simple as just positioning one there.

  • Ok.. the current setup (inlcuding two pods) works fine, and the current setup meets the criteria:

    •    The Hub must be in 'Router Mode' and not have been changed to 'Modem Mode' - It is
    •    Channel Optimisation must be left on - It is
    •    The SSIDs must be the same and broadcast enabled - they are, and it is
    •    The SSID must be password protected - it is
    •    The Passphrases of the SSIDs must match - they do

Your diagnostic checks must me wrong, because nothing has been split - and the two current pods are working fine. I simply need a third pod because the wifi signal in my conservatory is barely sufficient to connect to wifi. At best, the signal is 'poor'.

      Hi DazzyL,

What WiFi speeds are you getting in the conservatory please?

Please post us a picture of the speed test result and we can advise further.

  • There are places in the conservatory that the signal is not strong enought to connect at all.  The above image is what I got when I did manage to connect.

      Hi DarrenL

Thanks for coming back to the thread. The current Pods, can they be placed nearer the conservatory?

They should not be in a place where you were having the issue, but in like a halfway point between the Hub and the issue.

If so, do that and re-run the app scan please :)

      Best wishes.

Thanks for you reply.  No, they can't be moved from their current positions. They were placed where they are currently after a lot of trial and error to provide coverage where it was needed, and ethernet cable runs subsequently made to facilitate that.

If this is going to be a WFH office, I strongly recommend you look at getting an ethernet cable from the Hub to the Conservatory.  Cables can be run outside, around the property, to a maximum length of 100 metres.  Either you can DIY, or any good electrician can do this work.  The last solution I would think of is Wifi as it's too unreliable and prone to interference.

That is the plan, but I still need a reasonable wifi signal in the conservatory for devices that don't have an ethernet connection.

Yes understand, but with the cabled connection and switch in you can put a WiFi access point there quite easily. As it will be a wired backhaul there will be no loss of speed or quality.
