WiFi extender o2 volt customer

I am having and been having for a while poor WiFi upstairs. I purchased a WiFi Extender and is pretty poor. How do I get a official supplied WiFi extender, or is it best to get a technician out to test the system?

I think I have a old WiFi 3 hub also.

thanks

It's all about placement of the extender.  The extender has to receive a good signal so as to relay a good signal.  Often, more than one extender is needed to bring WiFi to other parts of a house.

The VM extenders won't behave differently and in any case should be avoided because, in conjunction with the wretched CONNECT app, you likely to have nothing but grief.  Do read the threads in this forum if you need evidence that supports my advice.

  • Hey Les2013, thank you for reaching out and I am so sorry to hear about this.

You would need to download the Connect App do a scan and if needed it will allow you to order one.

They are free if you are  a 1GB or Volt customer, otherwise £8 per month.

£8/month!!  They prolly don't cost that for VM to buy!  Not only that, they are the least useful form of access point because you do not control your WiFi settings.  The wretched CONNECT app (see the hundreds of scathing threads about that app) screws up the Hub 4.   Buying your own mesh system is a better technical solution and frees you from the constraints forced on you by the VM Pods.

  • finding a lot of people reporting issues with them  as it happens i am looking at this but having the usual end of contract issues with getting sensible renewal quotations.

find it strange that virgin want to control this to the nth degree, usually end up with virgin hubs in modem mode these days and it resolves many of the issues with the native modes of the hubs. but as a result the wifi pods wont work I guess at all as no way to integrate them whilst in modem only mode.

      Hi madwayne,

Thanks for taking the time to get in touch.

There are a few requirements for the Pods to work with our Hubs. You can view these below:

      • The Hub must be in 'Router Mode' and not have been changed to 'Modem Mode'
      • Channel Optimisation must be left on
      • The SSIDs must be the same and broadcast enabled
      • The SSID must be password protected
      • The Passphrases of the SSIDs must match

As long as all of the above points are all met then the Pods will automatically connect to your Hub's WiFi and begin broadcasting. The wireless details from the Pods will be the same as the Hub's details, so no additional steps are required to connect up the devices in the home.

If you're operating your hub in modem mode, the pods will not connect or work.

      Thanks,

As very sensibly advised above, keep well clear of the 'pods' and the appalling Connect app.

Put the Hub into modem mode and get yourself a proper WiFi router, or a mesh system if you can afford a little more.

Life is too short to waste it trying to get VM provided WiFi to work properly.
