Virgin Media Hub version differences in Modem mode

I have a Hub 2ac, which a few people on the phone (due to area problems) have told me is very old and may be causing problems... Ive been offered a Hub 4, and just today received an email asking me again....

However, I use my hub in Modem mode, with another router sitting behind it, and dont expect that to change. So the question is, are there are realy differences between Hub 2ac and Hub 4 (or 5)?

I only have 300mbps (plenty fast enough tbh), and most of the improvements between versions (that I can see) are related to wifi rather than modem mode.... Im fairly eco conscious so at the moment Im probably saying its not worth the change.... Im fairly technical and have worked in IT in the past so should be able to follow most changes if somebody can help me find them!

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

The hub 4 uses DOCSIS 3.1 channels which previous hubs do not.

Thank you both! I can see it supports Docsis 3.1 but as far as I can tell that is only relevant at 500-1000 Mbps or so? As Highway points out, the current hub seems to work well enough for me, so I think thats probably the answer I needed!

"as far as I can tell that is only relevant at 500-1000Mbps or so?" No, they are used on all Hub4s and 5s, the load is spread across channels.

Got it, thank you. So it would probably make my connection more stable as in theory there are more channels that my router could choose to use, but only if there are lots of people on my street with Docsis 3.0 routers only - if most have 3.1 then I assume the channel selection is less important.

Thanks again for all of the information!

Every person on your street is using lots of DOCSIS 3.0 channels
typically 24 Downstream for Hub 3 and 30+ for Hub 4 and 5.

    Hub 4 & 5 both run a mix of 3.0 and 3.1 DOCSIS.

Hub 4 appears to be ok in Modem modem.
But reading this forum, currently there are endless issues when the Hub 4 is in Router mode.
