Fire TV cube (2022 3rd gen version)

Anyone know if this is compatible with the Virgin 360 box?

  • Interesting as Amazon market it as supported, so looks like they do but VM don't want to 🙂

Their web page quote for compatible devices list:

"Connect a compatible Cable or Satellite box to the HDMI input on Fire TV Cube to control live TV with Alexa or the included Fire TV Alexa Voice Remote. Selected Cable/Satellite boxes support this functionality, including: Sky, Virgin Media TV, BT, TalkTalk TV."

    Well-informed

It's not officially supported no, you can use workarounds such as 3rd party apps but then it becomes a huge pain in the setup for it.

I noticed that in the Check Compatability pop up box and at the time thought it doesn't actually say which VM set top box.

I know there's a Canadian VMTV app (it's a shame VM UK can't adopt the same app) and thought it would definitely work with that as the app is available to download via the Amazon store as well as Google Play and ios.

  • i bought the third gen cube. it arrived this weekend. i updated firmware. I plugged the virginmedia hdmi cable into the cube and it would display the input without any problems but it does not give you any option to control the channels from within the cube using alexa or the remote (which is one of the main selling features for this generation).

basically, all you can currently do is switch to VM hdmi input which you could already do with the old v2 cube.

in looking at all the options for “manage equipment”, there were options for set top boxes for sky and talk talk but nonefor VM.

it might change but i suspect its just marketing hype or a mistake and will never arrive. im sending mine back along with new echo studio unless they remedy it in next week

      On our wavelength

      Hello,

I"ve got the new Fire TV cube too.

Similarly, I haven't got it to work with the TV 360 box.  My cube does show an option for Virgin Media in the devices list though.  I have tried this, but it doesn't control the box.

I'm hoping that since the option appears in the list, that Amazon intended it to function, and ultimately it will have to operate as advertised.  Maybe I'm being over optimistic.

Incidentally, I have a (failing) Harmony remote control.  To get this to control the TV 360 box it is set up as Ziggo Mediabox Next.  I believe that there are Arris and Humax codes that also work on Harmony remotes. I tried to set up the 360 box with the Fire TV Cube by calling it Arris, Humax and Ziggo, but none of these options worked either.

I'd be interested to know if anyone has managed to get it to work, and how.

      Here's hoping.

        Tuning in

You're right, they have now added in a longer list of providers, and virgin media is now listed. That said, it still doesnt work. ;-(

Frustratingly, I have had to factory reset my cube simply just to be able to experiment with updating the cable/set top box options when my VM hdmi cable is plugged directly into the cube.

When you connect your HDMI cable directly to the Cube, it walks you through the task of setting up your setup box so it can be controlled from the cube. However, after it fails, it doesnt seem to allow you to walkthrough this same settop box set up process. Instead, you're forced to remove the hdmi cable from the cube and connect it to the TV. YOu're then able to go into Manage Equipment and try setting up live TV (which in turn asks if you're setting up cable or settop box). And still, no joy, but at least i'm not having to factory reset the box.

All in all, i've found it a pretty frustrating experience. I have wasted over an hour on something that should be v basic. I've also contacted amazon support and it was embarrassingly bad.

I don't think i would recommend the cube to anyone - its expensive, and doesnt do what its supposed to do out the box.

      Hi Treble1

Is the VM STream box connected tio a different HDMI port? If so you need to change the source on your TV.
