Cabling assessed as fire risk

As well as a personal VMo2 subscriber, I am a Director of the company that owns the freehold of the estate of private flats where I reside in south-east London (SE19 1DR). The whole estate of 74 flats was cabled by VM about 6 years ago and we have had a very good experience with it ever since.

But we now have one problem; according to a H & S and fire inspection, the VM cabling is not up to current standards and is assessed as a potential fire risk. Apparently there is an issue with the clippings used to secure the cabling.

This is a major issue for the whole estate which we need to respond to as a matter of priority; our managing agents have been trying to contact VM but are not getting any response by conventional means. So I am now doing so through this medium, both as a VM subscriber and on behalf of the whole estate.

Can someone from VM please message me privately so we can progress this?

Thanks, [Mod Edit : Personal details removed]

  • Hi afperry,

Thanks for posting, can you confirm if this is a business account or you're contacting us on behalf of the tenants?

Alex_Rm, this is a personal account and I am contacting VM as a customer in my own right but also on behalf of tenants that I represent as a director of the company. There are numerous residents on this estate who are customers of VM and I am representing all of them.

The managing agents, Prior Estates, have written and been trying to get some central response direct from VM for some time but it seems that VM is ignoring them, or at least the issue they are raising, which is why I am trying to get some response through this forum (there may be an issue with Prior not having a business account with VM).

I am sure this matter can be easily resolved by someone from VM who is conversant with current  fire regulations for cabling, but in the post-Grenfell world we live in such matters need to be attended to as a priority. If such a person from VMO2 could contact me in the first instance, or tell me how better to proceed, I would be very grateful.

This is a customer forum, and the VM representatives here are not equipped to deal with a serious issue like this.

If you want to get this dealt with expeditiously you really need to write to VM02's registered office.

  • This screen grab from the inspection report clearly indicates the issue: fire-resistant fastenings. There must be many others in this Forum who have similar wiring installations, this is not just a one-off.
