Exposed cables

Hi any MODMIN

Sorry I’ve left this so long to report.

Around last Sept can’t be sure of the exact date, engineers attended and replaced the cabling to our property under the lawn and paved house border.  After they had gone whilst this cured the issue of an intermittent signal and an engineer also attended and replaced the box on the wall too as the connections were corroded inside.  After he had gone I eventually noticed the cables running down the wall were exposed both leading to and from the box which in my view exposes them to being interfered with and because we rely on NEST CCTV / remote heating and Ring Doorbell with a risk of property security. To be fair they’ve always been partly exposed but moreso since this work.

Can I do this myself or will an engineer need to attend to rectify this please?

Whilst the cables are on our property well away from the public footway and road there is no barrier to access and no one needs to be in to enable this or is this necessary?

if any MODMIN can advise please ?

We are away until Feb 2 2026.  So just exploring this issue at this time.

  • Hello ianjayne,

Welcome back to the Community, and thanks for taking the time to post here on the forums. I can confirm that Virgin Media wouldn't cover the cables between the ground and the outside junction box. If you wish to cover them, you could do that yourself without causing any issues.

    Kind Regards,

The primary place to report faults or for service requests is Customer Services on 0345 454 1111/150 if you have a VM landline or wait two or three days for a VM staff member to get to your post. This board is not a fault reporting system nor a direct line to VM.

AFAIK, VM don't cover cables that run up or down walls.

I’ve seen them covered where they’re encroaching the public footway but you may be right. If not I’ll do it myself just didn’t want to do anything against their principles or practices.
Hope a Modmin will comment soon. Not a great problem.
