Unable to access Virtual desktop Website(s)

Hi,

I have two ways of working from home - one logging in through a VMware horizon website and the other through a VPN via Cisco Anyconnect Secure Mobility Client.

When I attempt to log on via VMware horizon I get the error - Hmm can't reach this page - took too long to respond - ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT

When I attempt to log on via Cisco Anyconnect Secure Mobility Client I get the error - Could not connect to server. Please verify Internet connectivity and server address.

I have an internet connection and other websites are loading normally. I have connected by both methods via another internet connection at a different location so it makes me think the connection to the sites is being blocked by my home virgin broadband service?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

  • My guess is either your parental controls are still ON, or the firewall for your VPN server has blocked you.

You can test parental controls by visiting some obvious 18+/gambling sites maybe?

If parentals controls are definitely OFF, I would try emailing your work's IT department, or whoever gave you the login for the system. Tell them your VM IP address and explain that you are having issues connecting and that someone told you the firewall could be blocking you.

You may need to disable parental control in your account settings.

  • Hi carl_pearce

Thanks for the reply. I have disabled parental control - still no luck.

  • You may have tripped your work firewall.

Are you able to see the login page at all when trying to access the horizon website? Or does the timeout occur after you enter your login details?

Are you able to ping your Horizon server? ping horizon.yourworkplace.com or whatever your work domain is.

    Knows their stuff

Anyconnect is IPSec usually. There should be an option on the hub for IPSec pass through. This setting also allows WiFi calling to work as long as phone is supported, as they also use an IPSec tunnel.

Put your hub into modem mode (which should give you a different WAN IP address). Now see if you get a connection.

      Hi

Yes its been fixed. It was the firewall blocking the VPN - the firewall of my employers. I provided my IP - the IT team did not find my IP being blocked but deleted IP address around it. Apparently IP address can change?
