Up to speed

Tearing my hair out, trying to swap white pods to black pods..

I'm a Volt customer and just upgraded to 1Gbps connection as I need faster speeds around the house and the Hub 3 with white pods just wasn't cutting it.  I was told I just need to 'Chat' once the Hub had arrived and it was all in my notes.  General speeds with the Hub 5 seem much better - but the rooms I work in are still slow speeds - about 35 - 45Mbps when connected to the pods.

I know the black pods support wired backhaul and I have cables available that I can connect them to.

However, CS are saying I need to cancel the white pods, wait a few weeks and apply for black ones.  Seriously?

Is there anyone here able to help me here and swap my white pods for black ones?  I'm so close to cancelling here, this seems crazy.

Thanks.

I would be surprised if VM provide you with black pods. You cannot ‘pick and choose’ what equipment VM supply and you have stated that the current pods are meeting the VM guarantee of 30Mbps.

  • Thanks.  I'm not looking to 'claim' under the minimum speed guarantee, just get speeds anywhere close the the speed I'm paying for.  The black pods will enable this, the white ones that I have won't.  Black pods will give me close to the speeds I'm paying for in the rooms they're in when I connect them to ethernet and use their wired backhaul ability.

      VM guarantee 30Mbps:

You pay for the connection to the HUB over the VM network:

Rather than upgrade your speed, you technically should have stuck with what you had and used the additional savings to buy your own kit.

Upgrading to a faster broadband subscription to get higher WiFi speeds is, in most cases,  counterproductive.

Having cables available step forward and use Wireless Access Points. Choose good brands  and be totally free of the zero configurability and total nuisance of VM Pods ( white & black ).

  • Thanks all,  I understand that upgrading speed doesn't in itself necessarily increase speeds to the devices but in my case I knew the change from the old Hub 3 to the WiFi 6 enabled 5 would - and it has made quite a difference.  However, I would imagine that anyone with a Hub 5 and 1Gbps connection, if they're going to be sent Pods, then they would be sent the black ones as they can at least theoretically support the speeds they're paying for.  The white ones don't support them in theory or obviously in practice.  I'm just trying to get the best speeds I can with the 'standard' equipment and when I upgraded I was told it was a simple process once the Hub arrived to have them swapped.  I've run cables to where the Pods will go and this should give me massive improvements in WiFi speeds around the house if I can connect black pods to them so they use the wired backhaul.

      Hi sjw211,

Thanks for taking the time to contact us via the Community. It's lovely having you on board with us in the Forums. ⭐

We're sorry to hear you're having issues with replacing the pods you currently have. As the white pods are fully compatible with the 1GB broadband and Hub 5, and you've confirmed that you're getting over the minimum WiFi speed, we wouldn't be able to replace the ones you have.

      Many thanks,
