Switch off router at night

We have a teen who's not sleeping at night because they are on-line.  I seem to recall that physically switching off the router is not recommended for balancing/performance reasons.  Is there a way that we can set-up when there can be internet and when there isn't?

We're using Hub 3.

TIA

Any procedure for blocking access to the internet via Hub setting changes etc, are easily bypassed by any half tech-savvy teenager.  Only real way to do it is to switch the Hub off and put it under your pillow !

As you say, its not recommended but its the best you can do.

Try laptops and mobiles remain out of the bedroom at lights out.

Be equally concerned covert use of mobiles & social media are also occupying their attention in the classroom.

  • Thanks guys but I was hoping that there might be an option in the connect app that might be able to control this.  Just I'm not having much luck with the app either.

I would uninstall the Connect app it is far more trouble than it is worth.

The only sure way is a Faraday cage for the hub. Or the kids!

It’s fine to switch the hub off at night.  Nothing anywhere is affected.  When you turn it on again, it registers its status with the VM and off you go after a few minutes.

Of course, if their mobiles have sufficient data allowance they can stay on line without the broadband and even set up a hot spot for tablets.

If you're in the sad position of not having parental control, you can always insist on devices being charged in your own room overnight.
