Split and rename SSID’s

Good day.

I am a newbie to Virgin Media and I want to be able to split the SSID name between the different signals so the I can name them -2g and -5g.  I would appreciate any help.

You do this in the VM Hub menu at http://192.168.0.1/

Disable "Smart Wi-Fi" aka "Wireless Channel Optimisation" as the first step.

Then change the name of the 5GHz SSID adding -5g
followed by changing the 2.4GHz SSID adding -2g

You can have the same or different passwords for a split SSID.

You might consider using -2.4GHz & -5GHz for the Wi-Fi as
2g & 5g are the names of two current GSM mobile bands.

If used, uninstall the VM Connect app as it will even in the background constantly try to re-merge the SSIDs and keep trying to re-enable Smart Wi-Fi.

As above, but I would suggest not using a period in any Wifi SSID, a dash is less likely to have issues with some OS's.

      •    Access your Hub by navigating to 192.168.0.1
      •    Login with the default login info (on base of Hub) unless you've already updated it.
      •    Go to Advanced Settings > Wireless > Security
      •    Disable the Smart Optimisation on the wifi bands.
      •    Under Wireless Frequency 2.4GHz change the Wifi Network Name (SSID), suggest append _2 to the end.
      •    Repeat for the Wireless Frequency 5GHz, suggest append _5 to the end and click on Apply changes
      •    Try to avoid spaces and periods in the SSID names as they can cause issues with certain devices.
