Smart lighting Lightwave RF link - connecting to Hub5x

Hi there,

I'm new here and new to VM.

I'm trying to connect my smart lighting to our new hub.  Contacted the manufacturer, Lightwave, who mentioned port forwarding and to contact virgin. Very long day, trying to get someone to help, end result was to finally speak to someone who said to Google it! 😡🤣

I've tried looking at the hub advanced settings, but have no clue where to start.

Anybody able to give a dummy's guide?

Cheers in advance

  • I have the same issues when plugging the Lightwave Link directly into the Hub 5x.

I use a TP link tl sg105s ethernet splitter in one location and the Lightwave Link now works when ported through this. Could be a solution for you.

I don't technically know why it works through this but not directly to the Hub 5x. It may be due to compatibility with the port speeds. Lightwave troubleshooting states "It does operate using 10Mbps connectivity which has in rare instances caused issue with connectivity as some ports of 100Mbps or 1Gbps have had issues with this."

The lighting device is constantly flashing red indicating a cable/ router issue. The cable is fine.

I've just found this in the device manual which may be my issue. I have found the advanced settings on the router, but wouldn't know how to translate the manual instruction into what I need to access or change....

"Also, make sure that there are no non-standard
firewall/port forwarding rules on your network (the Lightwave Link operates
on ports 69 & 2011 on UDP for remote connectivity and 9760 & 9761 for local
      connectivity)."

so basically,  I need to know which piece of info to enter into each field....I think, or do I need to be on a different page? Need someone who knows the terminology.... and don't suggest customer service, if I wasn't already bald I would have been by the end of today speaking (and messaging) to them 🤣

What Lightwave model is it. I very much doubt it need port forwarding. Do it connect to WiFi? What band? If so probably only 2.4Ghz and that’s possibly where your problem lies.

It's a lightwave rf. It plugs in via ethernet cable. Manufacturer has told me I need to allow port forwarding. See the extract in an earlier post of mine...

Reset the Lightwave. Then try other hub ports and, if not successful, another Ethernet cable.

        Hi seadogdjh 👋.

Thanks for reaching out to us. Apologies for the issues that you are having with your smart lighting. The Hub5x is compatible for port forwarding and if you're still experiencing, please consult with the manufacturers support Team to make sure they are the correct ports and look into any other security software you may have on your computer to make sure they are allowing connections.

Get your own router with 1Gb ports or better and double NAT DMZ to it and wait till modem mode gets here

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the HUB wouldn't have been tested with such an old standard, however, the TP Link clearly states 10Mbps compatibility.

Many thanks for that, exactly what I needed, someone who has had the same experience with the same equipment, was a long shot but it may have worked 😉 shall keep you posted

You problem was definitely with the speed of 10M for the device. I know the Hub5 does not support 10M, it’s been reported on the board for Tado hubs and I would expect the Hub5 to be no different.
