Purchased my own router

G'day

I've had to purchase my own router due to problems with my Hub 3's 5GHz connection. Is there anything I should know before putting the Hub 3 into router mode? Do I need to clone the Hub 3's MAC on my new router or will Virgin's network accept it? Finally, how will this affect my landline phone, which is connected to my Hub 3?

Cheers

No need to worry about MAC cloning. Put the Hub into modem mode and switch it off. Setup your Router for DHCP\Automatic IP and connect it to the Hub with a short Cat 6 cable. Once your Router has settled, only then switch on the VM Hub.  After 10 minutes your Router should have a WAN IP and be working.
As for the phone, it should be attached to the VM Hub TEL 1 socket.  This will work in modem mode.

You don't need to clone anything, put hub into modem mode, connect your router and power it on. You leave your phone connected to the hub.

  • The only real reason to clone the MAC address is if you want to retain the same public IP address.

in router mode you can't get the the WAN IP over modem mode even if you copy the MAC from the hub it will not work.
