Packet loss every day between 4pm and 12am exactly

Every day for the last week I've been experiencing packet loss that starts at almost exactly 4pm and finishes at exactly midnight.

Have tried pin hole reset of router as advised. Have had a monitor set up but it's saying that my network is fine when it obviously isn't.

Yep - in the absence of any news as to what they might be doing in the background - it's all your fault.

Thought I'd ask in Hitchin's local group if anyone else had issues.

St Albans people - I have a meeting with my MP at his Friday surgery where I will be raising this, I recommend you do the same. Get in contact with local papers and do your OFCOM complaint as well.

I had opened up a complain long time back but nothing has happened. Considering majority of us now work from home, this situation is simply unacceptable.

How has the St Albans gangs' internet been over the last 2 days? Mine looks to be working correctly, but I'm hesitant to say it's actually fixed as it's had a period of working fine for 2 days before, and then it came back.

Well, as predicted, the issue's back. You nearly made it 36 hours Virgin well done.

Since temp outside stopped hitting mid 20s have not had the 4pm outage. From Monday been like this:

Interesting. Wonder if it’s cabinet equipment overheating.

I’m in SG6 Letchworth and also am experiencing the same symptoms on my VM Business connection.
Ping rate randomly spiking and lots of packet loss yesterday. Even after a engineer visited earlier,

Today has actually been okay.  I’ve got a senior engineer visiting on Monday. I’ll show him this thread as I now suspect the issue is beyond my physical connection to the cabinet.

Have sent it to local press and got in touch with ISPReview, and have an appointment with my local MP this Friday.

But why would the cabinet equipment overheat at 16:00, when the weather is close to cooling?  I'm assuming that your BQM also shows the red packet loss from 16:00.

True, I'm not keeping tabs on timings this end.  I know it had been fine up until 30th August, then issues from then to early Sept.

When the engineer left yesterday, I was getting dissconects and the home Tivo box channels were showing blocks of interference and a 'Channel Failed' message for a second or two.  However, the connection seems to have settled down to stable since yesterday.

I'm going to test ping rate and packet loss again today and if it remains fine, I may well end up cancelling the enginerer visits tomorrow.  I fear they will cause more issues.

  • My internet has been iffy for a couple of weeks now but has been barely usable this evening until about 15 mins ago - where pretty much fine again. Are they throttling it? It has been great for 18 months. We live in an area with terrible mobile coverage, although SG5, so poor WiFi just isn’t acceptable.

The packet loss has not been an issue for me over the last 2 days. A router 5 has also improved the connection passively (but I stress, this has no relation to the externally-based packet loss). Presumably they're also sending a new hub 5 to everyone affected, or is it just to the people kicking up a fuss and getting the press involved?

Back broken again this evening. No way it's relating to heat. It's cold today.

Yes - that's the way to go.  Proper public domain exposure eventually weighs them down.
