My Virgin Hub is blocking one website – everything else works fine

My Virgin Hub is blocking just one website — nothing else. I can access the site using other networks, mobile data, and even from a VPN connected through my own hub. I’ve also confirmed I can access it on other Virgin Media routers.

Has anyone come across this before? So far, I’ve:

  • Checked firewall settings
  • Reviewed router logs
  • Run ping tests
  • Verified Web Safe is OFF
  • Performed a factory reset

I'm using Hub 5

  • I got it working — it was blocked by my work’s server due to suspicious behaviour. Looks like I’d been visiting the site too often and refreshing it like mad, lol.

Thanks for all the help, folks!

    Your options are :

    1)  Disable both Parental Controls & Web Safe in the VM Online Account.

    2) Adjust your Web Browser to use a Public DNS

    3) Adjust your device to use a Public DNS

Share the URL of the website so we can see what might be amiss.

I've did all these, I double checked them. It was already in place.

It's working for me on VM. It might be best posting a traceroute so we can see where it goes wrong for you.

The only odd thing I notice is it's a Scottish website but for some reason they're using a host in Phoenix, Arizona, so the pings are horrible.

Using a VM Hub 3 in Router mode with Parental Controls disabled & Web Safe Enabled I am able to access http://www.renfrewshire24.co.uk using both Edge & Firefox web browsers.

The problem may be http://www.renfrewshire24.co.uk  is an insecure website meaning that is an HTTP website and not the more current HTTPS type of secure website.

Web browsers may be configured to only display HTTPS websites.
This can usually be relaxed to permit HTTP in the browser settings

Being a Hub 5 is "Smart Security" enabled in the VM Connect app ?

VM Smart Security is a DNS redirector on the Hub 5 and it has been responsible for some quite obscure DNS lookup and timeout issues, issues that would go away if a VPN was used.

Are you sure that host isn't simply rejecting your IP? You said it works when you use a VPN.

So with a work VPN disabled access is fine, that is not quite how the original post reads.
