Moving my router 3 meters

Been happy with the location of the router since its  installation around 20yrs ago and have decent wi-fi coverage with the Hub 3 ,however since we bought a smart tv for our front room we've noticed the wi-fi range from the Hub 3 is poor where the TV is, even when a wi-fi extender used , The location of the Hub 3 router does not help things with it being located at one end of our oblong shaped bungalow and the tv at the opposite end, not only that the router is along side my legs 1 foot above the ground under a table and its wired via a Lan Cable into my PC on the table .I've moved it on top of the table and the wi-fi signal is a little better but i feel the best solution is to move the from its present location to sit on top a cupboard in the same room ,2 meters nearer to the middle of the bungalow and 2 meters higher than were it is now.  A new Lan cat6 cable no problem but what type of cable do you recommend to use to make 5 meter extension cable to extend the existing as the fitted one is not long enough ,as its only a F1 connection fitting and it will staying same room move  I could this myself

Just wait here a day or two and a VM Mod will pick this up.  They can supply the correct co-ax pre made cables up to 10 metres.  Do NOT make this extended yourself as if you introduce noise into the circuit, this will affect everyone on your street cabinet.

  • Hi STEVE591

Welcome back to the Community Forums.

Sorry to hear of your WiFi concerns after you got a new Smart TV.

If you're looking to relocate or rewire the equipment, we can arrange this for you. There is a £25 call-out charge for these types of requests.

The shortest coaxial cable we're able to send is 5 metres, so if that's not ideal for your set up, then we'll need to arrange an engineer. Let us know how you'd like to proceed.

Try requesting a 5m cable by text on 0753 305 1809 include account name/number and what the issue is, there is also a “Chat” option on their website - but note that replies usually take longer.

Or you can speak to the team on WhatsApp by logging into your online account via a mobile handset and there will be a link to speak to VM by Whats App (the number is 0780 3089 684 ) - you can use the same number for their other social media platforms too (TwitX/Fbook. etc) - so try them all.

A VM person will respond here when they get here but can take up to a week
