Moving router downstairs

Our router was installed in a bedroom upstairs which I used as an office along with 2 telephone junctions boxes. Having been retired for a few years (and before getting the hall and stairs decorated) I am thinking of getting the router moved to the bottom of the stairs to get rid of all the bulky cables that go up the stairs. Also I would like the old telephone junction boxes removed.
I am a little hesitant to go ahead with the move as we use a PC in one of the other bedrooms and a laptop in another one. Both these get good signals at present although our TV signal downstairs is very poor. Is there any way we can check what the signal would be like if the router was moved? The cable is not long enough for us to do it. Also I understand the call out charge is £25, are there charges on top of that depending on what needs to be done?

If it's a straightforward wiring job that can be done right away it should be covered in the £25.

  • What is the easiest way to book an engineer to come out?

      Hi Bob-48 👋.

Thanks for reaching out to us and welcome to the Community Forums. We can assist you with booking an engineer, the flat rate is £25, there is no hidden or additional costings to this. With the signal issues, it would be worthwhile looking into Wi-Fi Max 👉 Wi-Fi. Prior to that the engineer will ensure the best position of the hub within your home.

So that we can discuss further we would need to bring you in for a private message, please look out for the envelope on the top right of your web browser or if you are using a mobile device, it will be located under your profile icon.

      Thanks,

      Sabrina

  • Just had an engineer come out. He was very helpful and after testing various areas in the house  found the best solution was to have a booster and leave the router where it was. After 10 years we now have a television and Ringbell with a strong signal. Thank you.

      Hi Bob-48 👋.

Thanks for the update on this, we are happy to hear a solution was better than a relocation for your needs. Should you need us again please do reach back out to us. Little reading matter on the Wi-Fi Max pods 👉 Wi-Fi Max 😁.

I’m wondering if it would be possible to have my router changed from downstairs to upstairs as no devices are used other than a ring that will be directly below the room i want it installed in. i need wired connection ideally in my upstairs office
