Move router or mesh?

Hi everyone,

After some advice please. We're having a single storey rear extension done. The current wifi router is at the front of the house (coverage reaches as far as the back of the house but is temperamental).

We're wondering whether to move the router to the new extension (where we'll spend most of our time) or whether to install a mesh system.

Any guidance would be great.

Thanks, Steph

£25 to get VM to move the Hub would be the cheapest option.

As you are building an extension it offers the opportunity to lay in some Cat6a ethernet cabling buried in conduit tubing behind the plaster(boards).  Then simply plug one end into Hub wherever it is and on the other end in the extension attach a WAP like the one below - which will give perfect wifi and ethernet connectivity in there,

Normally when more Wi-Fi Coverage is needed adding extra Wi-Fi Access Points or Wi-Fi Mesh Nodes is the only way to go.

Moving the VM Hub will change the way Wi-Fi coverage occurs but it will not increase the area of good coverage.

      Hello StephNFFC,

Thanks for posting in regards to the upcoming changes to your property and you looking to move the Hub, we appreciate you raising this via the forums and welcome to the community.

We're happy to assist and arrange a visit, as advised as it is classed as a non fault call out it is chargeable at £25 for the visit. Some other good points have also been raised by Jbrennand and Client62, particularly that the range won't increase it will just cover a different area so moving the Hub may cause issues elsewhere in the property unless moved more centrally. This obviously depends on the property and lay out.
