Modem Mode Instability – TLV-11 Config Rejection with Static IP Block

Hi,

I'm using a Virgin Media connection in modem mode with a static IP block assigned to me. My setup uses OPNsense as the main router/firewall behind the hub.

Every few days, the modem loses connectivity entirely and only recovers after a full reboot. When this happens, I see the following recurring errors in the modem logs:

Config File Rejected due to Invalid or Unexpected TLV 11
TLV-11 - unrecognized OID

I've configured my WAN interface statically on my firewall, based on the IPs provided. However, it appears the modem is rejecting the config file — possibly because it's expecting a DHCP-based handshake.

I’m requesting:

A review of the config file being provisioned to my modem in modem mode with a static IP setup.
Confirmation that static IP assignment via DHCP reservation is in place and expected behavior for my account.

This has been persistent and disruptive, and front-line support hasn’t been able to assist. I'd appreciate this being escalated to someone on the provisioning or network engineering side.

Thanks in advance,
Sam

So what hub do you have? business connection? as modem mode you only get one WAN IP by DHCP as a block or static does not happen in that mode

Ive got a hitron chita modem I believe when I spoke to the call center they told me the only way to use modem mode is via DHCP or Multi Static IP Mode - went for Multi Static IP so I have 5 IP's

      yea a business connection

VM way of doing Multi Static IP is you have to use there mode not modem mode you only get one random WAN IP by DHCP in modem mode.

VM will not route your  Static IP for modem mode the hub in the mode they want you to use gets a random IP then setup up a tunnel to your Static IP and VM will not give how to do this for modem mode and own router.

you likely don't need a  Static IP so you should just ask to drop having a Static IP

You need to get back to VMB to ascertain how their static IP blocks are provisioned in modem mode. If they use DHCP for the initial gateway IP (meaaning the first usable IP in their static block), then you configure OPNsense's WAN as DHCP.

Caveat: I'm not a VMB user, so don't assume I'm right.
