Longer cabling required

Hello All - we are currently undergoing a home refurbishment and are looking to build our internet network around the Virgin connection we have come to enjoy using. We have the virgin connection come into the house, but we would like to place the router (and then also switch) elsewhere away from where the connection enters the house. To make sure we do this right and have the correct cabling from the virgin box to the router, it would be great if you could help us with what cabling we need to cater for? The short cabling that we currently have from Virgin looks and feels like a standard coax. Is that right though? There seem to be many more services running through these cables than just broadband, eg phone and TV, so is there more to these cables?

Many thanks for your help.

Book a visit from a VM technician. For the bargain price of £25 they will move your Hub and rewire it to where you want, within reason.

You can phone CS or wait for VM person here to pick this up.

thank you. in the first instance, it would just be good to know what the cable is that virgin supply anyway, and then whether we can simply buy a longer one of the same thing (subject to knowing what the cable actually is). many thanks

RG6 is an open specification and many different varieties are made.

Some RG6 cables are not suitable because they have inferior screening which can cause interference problems.

The actual cable that Virgin use is not available in the shops.

hence your suggestion to get a virgin engineer around to lay the extension? Sound advise.

Probably cheaper too, by the time you've bought the cable and the crimping tool for the connectors.

VM used to charge £99 for a visit, but reduced it to £25. Knowing VM I doubt they did that as a favour to customers, more likely they were fed up with having to fix amateur modifications.
