Laptops with Intel Dual Band AC-3160 Wireless Adapter & Hub 5

If anyone is struggling to get a laptop with an old intel Wi-Fi adapter to see hub 5 or any other Wi-Fi 6 router, then i feel your pain. I've had no wifi on a Lenovo laptop with an Intel Dual Band AC-3160 Wi-Fi adapter since my Hub-5 was installed. it can see everyone else's router, but not mine. And i have read an awful lot of drivel about it.

For me it turned out to be a driver issue. Trouble is all the auto driver updates won't fix it, as Intel no longer support the adapter, and the drivers you need are no longer on their site.

But some kind soul saved them. And with a little poking about you should find them here:Solved: Issues with Intel (R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 - Intel Community

Technology moves very quickly these days with new innovations and devices appearing all the time, on occasion this can lead to issue and compatibility problems with older tech. We're happy to hear this has been resolved for you following some digging and we appreciate you providing your work around for other people who may be experiencing the same issue.

  • My dad spent ages (days messing with the wifi, changing settings, coming over to my house to test with my Hub 5, changing security settings, trying to split and force only 2.5Ghz or 5Ghz. Everything you can think of: the issue, the auto update driver installed by Windows. Thanks for posting this works. Tested on Intel Dual Band AC 3168

It might have been easier just to replace the Wifi card in the laptop.  I've done this on a couple of laptops, including a Levono, and it's not as daunting as it may seem.
