Hub3 Is killing my work VPN

Hi All,

I have a homehub 3 and everything works perfectly most of the time except when i try to use my work VPN.

When i do so my connection turns into a slow, jittery mess.

I know its not my work VPN, it works perfectly when i use it elsewhere and as im in the lucky position of being responsible for it, i was able to set up a sandboxed test and try a few things.

I've found that if i change my split tunnel profile to only include specific sites that it works pretty well, however the default is to include all traffic over the VPN and when this is enabled it really starts to struggle so i know this is traffic related.

I did find a community post that talks about UDP traffic causing these issues on Hub 3's (and our VPN does use UDP) but it went quiet, with people saying the Hub 5 resolves this due to a different chipset.

Is it possible to change out to the hub 5, i'd be happy to pay for the hub upgrade if necessary?

VM do not support VPN's, and as for getting a Hub 5, they will most likely try to move you to the 1Gb Tier.  Even then you could end up with a Hub 4.

Have you tested the VPN on a single device in modem mode?  This will rule out the Hub from a routing point of view.  If that is successful, you could always buy your own router?

  • Hey TheBR, thank you for reaching out and we are so sorry to hear about your connection issues.

As mentioned we do not support VPN's does the connection work fine without the VPN?

We've done some checks and everything looks great on our end, how has it been?
