Hub 5x Modem Mode

OK Virgin! Please.. I need someone to confirm if Modem Mode is coming soon?

I just got installed yesterday, I'm on 1GB Full Fibre and based in Ireland.

I've spent a considerable amount of time researching online around this topic and it doesn't look like using your own network equipment is possible... there's so many people crying out for this feature and I just want someone from Virgin to confirm here if its coming or not.

I already got IPv4 enabled, as a work around I can double NAT and that works, however the speed is reduced.. but also.. I really dont want to double NAT either.

Thanks

Hub 5x ( for XGS-PON ) in the UK is showing no signs of progressing towards offering Modem mode, for the last 12+ months VM Moderators in this forum have become ominously silent on the matter.

If double NAT is not suitable, use your own network equipment in Access Point mode.

Hey Alessandro, I've got quite a number of home network devices, firewall, switches, vlans etc etc so i'm wanting to use my own firewall.

I understand the network architecture on XGS-PON is different and this is probably whats causing the issues.  I'm hoping one of the virgin engineers see this and can confirm if this is a feature that's currently being developed/tested.

Your in Ireland so support is limited here

Your only option is to double NAT but there is said way to bypass the hub to use your own sfp module which you may need to tag out.

I did get a “We would still love to hear about your recent experience” and said please add modem mode for hub 5x or next model which is all you can do.

Hey there fronty, are you on full-fibre? (XGS-PON)

I followed both those articles yesterday and the page would never redirect to http://192.168.0.1/?page=modemmode correctly.. its like the page didnt exist.

Unfortunately everytime you factor reset the box you have to call virgin and request IPv4 again

I understand that recent firmware updates have removed the (hidden) modem mode page.

But does it work on the 10Gb port?

I never tried tbh because all the articles I read said to use one of the other ports. I'm only on M350 package so don't need >1Gb port.

  • Here's the status page from my Draytek router, WAN2 is the FTTP connection, you can see it has a public IP because I'm running in modem mode, so no double-NAT required and I don't have to faff about with firewall rules on the hub...
