Deco mesh modem mode on hub

I recently installed T - Link deco mesh to boost my wifi coverage . So I logged into my hub 3 to disable the hub Wi-Fi ,  to do this I have to choose modem mode this disables the router wifi. Thing is when you do this only Ethernet port number 1 remains active the others are turned off . So if like me you have anything connected to ports 2 3 or 4 they have no connection. I have looked at buying a Ethernet switch to overcome this . I don’t think I should have to do this surely virgin should be able to fix this .

  • Nope VM  dont really support modem only mode.  You will need to get your own unmanaged switch with 1GB ports - these are only ~£15 on Amazon.  Or put the Hub back to router mode and use the Deco's in "Access Point" mode.

You got deco you know how many ports it had you should of got a router your understanding of modem mode is young

Would this switch do the job ? So Ethernet from port 1 to the switch then all other equipment into the ports on the switch . Then hub into modem mode to disable the wifi from the hub . Then my wifi would be only from the deco mesh system

  • The whole point of modem mode is to turn the HUB into a 'dummy' device, to allow one wired device internet access.

After that it's up to you how it's distributed on your third party hardware.

  • If the switch is plugged into one of the Deco nodes any switch will work, as long as the Deco is also plugged directly into the HUB.

Given its a mesh the way they work is flawed unless hub in modem mode can set fixed source MAC that it allows only the MAC mesh which VM will not do.
