How to install TP-Link Deco M4 home mesh

Hi, I have just bought TP-Link Deco M4 whole home mesh on recommendation that it is easy to install. I  have Virgin Media broadband, TV, and the landline phone has been connected to the hub. I have a smart TV, and a home security system using WiFi. 

I have looked at various explanations for installing the system as I cannot at the moment get a reliable signal upstairs, however although I can use my current software I cannot get my head around the way to get this system installed. I do not always understand the terminology, and I am scared that I will end up with no broadband, TV or security. Can anyone help in simple terms, and also let me know how to get back to square one if I get it wrong? I would really appreciate help.

    Try this...

    Switch on and set up your first Deco unit (in its settings) to have its WAN port set to be in.. Dynamic/Automatic IP or DHCP (& Nat) mode, it may be pre-set that way anyway. Then, disconnect all cables from all your new Mesh units and switch them off and unplug them.

    Then, put the VM Hub into modem mode see ( https://www.virginmedia.com/help/virgin-media-hub-modem-mode ) and wait for the base light to turn magenta/purple (on a Hub3 - but white on a Hub4/5!).

    Once it’s in modem mode, the VM hub “MUST” then be powered off. Switch your first Deco unit on -  and make sure it’s fully initialised (leave 5 min) and then put in the Cat6a ethernet cable from its WAN port to the VM hub (any port will do).

    NOW… power up the VM hub and wait 5-10 minutes for The Hub to initialise and and you should get a connection. Use the recommended App to connect the other Deco unts units to the first one.

    This order only needs to be done the first time you connect the router to the VM hub. You might also set the SSID and key/password on the new Deco Mesh to match that on the HUB sticker or what you had changed it to previously,  so when you swap over, all your wireless devices should just connect automatically.

      Thank you, I eventually plucked up courage to do this and despite getting in a mess a few times I managed to get through it with your instructions to help me. I still have a few hiccups, like my printer didn't want to work with the new set up, and I may find a few more along the way. Somehow I manage to find a way through it, but for now it seems Ok. Thanks again for your help.

      Hi, will virgin tv work through the tp deco? Tried with a Tenda one and couldn't get virgin tv services.

        What aspect of VM TV are you enquiring about?

        All VM TV channels require a VM TV box and subscription. If you have that then - yes all should work.

    In the setup above should the VM TV box be connected (wired) to the VM Modem or to the meshed network router?
