Hub 5x Modem Mode

As a new full-fibre customer, I've recently encountered an issue that I'd like to address. I've realised that I'm unable to utilise my own, expensive, wireless mesh system because the Virgin Media hub provided does not support modem mode. In my opinion, it's vital that these hubs come with the option for modem mode. This limitation has left me feeling quite disappointed, and I'm seriously contemplating cancelling my contract, since I'm still within the cooling-off period.

I've noticed hints from Virgin Media staff about the potential availability of this 'feature' later this year. However, I'm not certain I'm willing to wait unless I receive some form of guarantee or reassurance from the Virgin Media team.

I've also seen several discussions on this topic both on this forum and on social media. Many customers are eagerly waiting for more information on this issue. I kindly request that someone from Virgin Media provide further advice and clarification on this matter. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated by me and many others in a similar situation.

Can I ask if there is any update around the Hub 5x modem mode?

This morning I ordered the 2gb conexion (with 2gb upload) but I have some Mikrotiks routers managing my network, so it's a must the modem mode. Installation date will be around mid May.

Well I hope people go to the trouble of jumping on VM useless full fibre then cancel.

We want are WAN IP VM not on your dumb equipment but to are stuff we are not asking for much since the internet beginning.

  • Another 5 months passed since nce last reply tot his post, after discussing this and being assured hub can be set to modem mode ive just got service connected today and was informed by the technician that theres no such thing on hub 5x. Option not in the menu, direct link opens the modem setup page but choosing modem mode hub reboots with green light and no dhcp or any communication on any port. I feel someone just lied straight to my face just to sell the service and contemplating canceling the whole thing within 14 days. All i need is a service and external IP address, double nat breaks my workplace vpn and i kinda need that since im working from home. Im absolutely raging

You are not going to get a better result than all of the users who have been waiting since the 5x was first introduced.

  • Well, i see this topic being actively discussed for about a year, after that amount of time hub 5x is being forced on people i would expect a working solution, not a feedback really..
