I've just had Vm internet installed today and was given the 5x hub with fibre in home set up. I've got my own mesh routers ready to go but the hub settings don't have a "modem mode" like all videos and forums online say it should. Any idea why I don't have this option ?

Wouldn ‘t it be good if the FT would address the main problem. Like go back to them upstairs and get an answer to the question: when will modem mode be available on the Hub 5x?

The only way I can imagine an installer setting up modem mode is by calling networks to send a management code to unlock the relevant firmware code. We’ll never know!

I think Seph, it’s much more likely that even the installer was unaware that Modem mode wasn’t an option and was simply offering to go into the menus, as normal, and enable it from there. Otherwise once the OP declined and they would do it themselves later, surely the installer would have said then that this wasn’t a customer facing feature?It would appear, that in typical VM lack of any joined-up thinking, the customer services staff and even the installers themselves have been given only the minimum of training as to the ‘limitations’ and gotchas of this device.As regard it being on a trial rollout, like Tudor, I suspect this is being deliberately not relayed to potential customers through fear of losing sales. The point about being a trialist, is that you are supposed to be fully aware that this is the case, that the equipment you are being given is not properly finished and may well crash, fail, be missing features, but you are prepared to put up with this in return for getting early access, and are fully prepared to be a sort of unpaid beta tester!Anyone remember when the Hub 5 was first released? The telephony didn’t work, the Pods didn’t work, the firmware did seem, in fact some say, still is, somewhat flakey! Also remember all the posts on here from customers not at all happy that they had been sent one of these hubs and blissfully unaware that they were effectively ‘trialists’?A bit ‘Groundhog Day’ wouldn’t you say?Now it is perfectly true that if you live in an area where VM are deploying XGS-PON, then, yes you need a different hub than everyone else, and that’s perfectly understandable, and also that VM need large scale trials of the equipment. But, it should be made clear to anyone signing up, that this is the case!

The issues are with 5x. Even your own engineers cannot resolve the issues, except by giving me new hub 5x's. The hub is not fit for purpose and has been unleashed on an your new customers. I now use my own router, but the 5x cannot be put into modem mode and the settings on it cannot be changed. This means that any server I use cannot be routed to the internet as I cannot port through the 5x to the gateway. You need to have conversations with Sagem to redesign this router. As we have fibre only, there is no alternative unless virgin allow third party routers to connect directly to their network.

Wrong devil to advocate, imo. It's VM and they are the devil here. It was not really honest to advertise/install their PON product without advising customers of the limitations. VM know full-well the importance to customers of modem mode and not telling them VM's plans for introducing modem mode is shameful.@rs1977Not having the PON service, I haven't got a GUI options map for the Hub 5x. So, what are the DHCP options in that hub? In other hubs that are not in modem mode, you can turn off DHCP and thus avoid double NAT when attaching an external router. Is at least that function available in the Hub 5x?

Try a pinhole reset firat as below. That should restore any missing functionalirty

Do a Hub “pinhole reset” - first make sure the 2 passwords on the Hub sticker are still there and legible first ! With the Hub still "switched on" throughout, press the reset pin in firmly with paper clip/SIM tray tool or similar "thin thing" and hold it firmly for at least 60 (a timed sixty) seconds, release the pin, leave for 5’ to stabilise - dont manually switch it off at any time. Passwords and SSID’s will reset to those on the sticker so log in and change them back to what they were/should be.
Log in and option for modem mode will be there

  Very few people know of the existence of the Hub5x, but a full pin hole reset is all you can try. Unless perhaps a firmware update restores this functionality.
