Hub 5

Hi , I have a hub 3 and although virgin say my connections are all ok , I would disagree with them , I have a pod on my landing which has made connection upstairs better , but we find that connecting at the back of the house is hit and miss and going out onto the patio is more or less a waste of time trying to connect .

So , I am not after more speed which a hub on its own will not give , but better connections which I understand the hub 5 will give , does anybody have any info on things please .

If the WiFi is poor at the rear of the house, can you not just get another Pod?  I would have my doubts about the range of the Hub 5 being much better than the Hub 3.  Also note the Hub 5 is ax protocol and some older IoT have problems with this.

Apparently the hub 5 has a better range from the research I have been able to do .

Take the much repeated VM marketing material with a pinch of salt.

Yes VM say your connection is fine due to the way they test which is is Docsis fine and to the hub from there end they simply don't test what clients have to put up with are side and then they do the pods thinking it would solve it!

so look to get your own wifi router with 1Gb or 2.5Gb ports and put hub in modem mode.

  • Interesting replies , but I would prefer being given a hub 5 to see if any good first .

  • How can I get a hub 5 , virgin don’t seem to want to hand them out and if you say you need one they send you around in circles .

Usually for higher tier services like M500 or Gig1/Gig2.

      What package are you on?

I’ve bought 4x EERO MAX 7 recently because the SH5 isn’t any better at WiFi for me and my property but 4 of the newer WiFi 7 routers should help as almost everything in our house has WiFi 7 capability.

The Hub 3 is suitable for M500 and getting 1 Gig is no guarantee of a Hub 5, it might a Hub 4.

  • Who at Virgin are saying your WiFi is OK. Are you using the connect app to try and order another pod assuming you can still do it that way. If you are using the app and it's not giving you the results required to order another pod I believe other people have maybe walked down the garden to where they get a low enough reading to order one. 🙄

    Just browsing

Hi, I had terrible WiFi till today. I tried till blue in the face to get my hub 3 replaced with better one, eventually just managed a replacement. This is equally as bad. Had one replaced about 11 months and it has gradually got worse. They tried to sell me faster data. Looked up online the hub is outdated and can't handle more than a few devices. The extra speed would have done nothing. I brought a netgear nighthawk rs100 for £89 from John Lewis. I put hub 3 in modem mode and then use rs100 for wifi and plugged ethernet. What a difference.

This is more common than you may think as a solution to Wifi problems.

Good, that's the way to go.  Yes, it's not for everyone, but it is a good solution and you are now in control of your own Wifi kit.
