Hub 5 dropout

Afternoon,

I recently contacted VM to discuss possibilty of obtaining a pod to assist an issue in 1 room of our house that has low wifi signal and they accepted that 1 was required, but as i refused to pay the £8 monthly charge (i don't agree with it), they then offered to upgrade my b/b to 1gig package and sent the new hub5.

Since it has been about 10 days now, i am finding the Hub 5 keeps dropping signal in that my phone says connected to wifi but no internet access.

Having used the VM Connect app, it does a test and says unable to connect to network but then it can connect instantly and says all is good.

I have also noticed the wifi coverage is nowhere near as good as it should be in other areas of the house, rather than the 1 initial room that we had previously.

In the room where the hub is, we have full strength wifi.

Reading the forums now, it appears many other people have experienced similar issues with Hub5 so hopefully someone from VM can help here as the webchat option is waste of time in my experience.

Thanks

  • You should downgrade back to your old speed then just get your own wifi router with 2.5Gb ports and put hub in modem mode.

Personally, I wouldn't have upgraded to 1Gb just to get "free" Pods.  You might have had better luck just buying your own Wifi solution to keep, irrespective of ISP.

Are you within the 14 day cancellation period of this upgrade?

Even at Free the VM Pods are not going to be used here !

Not sure that would fix my original issue of poor wifi in 1 room.

Our house was extended and the hub sits in the extension side.

The room with poor signal is through the original gable end of the house.

The wifi is poor to start with on the hub  so you could get a AP by wire to where its poor if needed but really get a better router 1st

    Hi,

I still await a reply from.VM on this issue if someone can assist please.

Internet drops out from time to time but white light on Hub5 stays on, but phone says connected to wifi but no internet access and unable to load pages.

Restarts again after a.minute or so.

    Frustrating

      Hi again James

Some posters are having issues with the hub 5 on software version LG-RDK_11.6.2-2410.1 losing wifi connection, although I've had no problems with mine on that version.

Have you actually received and set up a wifi pod yet? (You can have up to three but they are only sent out one at a time)

If so have you followed the guidance on setting it up to a midpoint between the hub and where the signal is weakest? (it needs a signal to lock onto so no point placing where there is hardly any signal)

Also, you need smart wifi to be turned on for the VM wifi pods to work, and the 2.4 and 5ghz channels should not be separated.

The Hub must be in 'Router Mode' and not have been changed to 'Modem Mode'
Channel Optimisation must be left on
The SSIDs must be the same and broadcast enabled
The SSID must be password protected
The Passphrases of the SSIDs must match
As long as all of the above points are all met then the Pods will automatically connect to your Hub's WiFi and begin broadcasting. The wireless details from the Pods will be the same as the Hub's details, so no additional steps are required to connect up the devices in the home.

      Hi foghornleghorn,

Do you still require help with the issue you stated above?

      🙂

    Quick update on this..

Bought a TP Link Deco kit x 3.

Pulled new Cat 6 cables where needed and upgraded switches to Gigabit ones.

Set up new mesh system and now have rock solid wifi throughout the house and speeds are incredible compared with previous.

Thanks to all who contributed and made me think of how best to proceed.

    Cheers

Excellent.  That's the way ahead and no matter who your next ISP is, it will still work ...
