Hub 5 Activation

I've recently purchased a Hub 5 from a popular auction site as VM wouldn't upgrade me from my current Hub 4.

When the Hub 5 is connected, the configuration page displays an "Internet access denied" status.

I called the VM activation line on 08009539500 and supplied the serial number and MAC address, and was told the activation was scheduled for the 19th between 8:00 and 12:00.

Is this genuine, or did the support agent fob me off?

I've tried all the usual restarting/resetting the Hub 5, and my Hub 4 still works fine.

    You got a door stop

Hubs MUST come from VM when they link the hub to you connection

    Hi tomsimmons82,

You've wasted your money unless you can return the equipment to the seller.

You will be very, very, very lucky if VM activate that hub 5.

All VM equipment remains VM's property and the hub 5 that you purchased should have been returned to VM when either an account is closed, or when the equipment is swapped out for other equipment.

There are financial penalties for failing to return the equipment - in the case of a hub 5 it's up to £75 per unit. (the same charge would be applied to you if you failed to return your hub4) See https://www.virginmedia.com/legal/price-guides

The devices are activated to the account, and if the device hasn't been supplied by VM to your account then it won't (shouldn't) be activated.

"activation was scheduled for the 19th between 8:00 and 12:00"

Today is the Wednesday 17th, so activation is not due until Friday morning.

That was part of my question if I wait till Friday (as advised by support) is it unlikely to activate?

That seems to be the case from the replies above.

I've always had to return VM equipment in the past so surprised at the number of Hub 5's on eBay!

Why are VM so reluctant to update long time customers i've been on the 1gig plan for several years now.

Their is only one good reason you want a hub 5 and its VM fault as in the not VM fault is the reason but the reason for it being VM fault.

Their is many years and then there is many, many , many years I have no doubt VM will do a hub 7 as the last Docsis hub at some point but I will not be looking to ask for it.

  • A 2.5GB port would have been nice to have but I can build my Unifi network with the Hub 4 in Modem mode.

Although I'm sure there will be plenty of reports of doom and gloom trying to do this as well ;-)
