Hub 5 - Work VPN not working

Replaced our old Hub with a Hub 5 a few days ago, and all working fine apart from when trying to connect to my work VPN.

Have tried all the usual suggestions, switching all settings off in Essential Security, switched off the router firewall, reboots, pin resets, changed DNS on my laptop, nothing working. VPN works fine with a hotspot from my phone, and was working with the older Virgin hub last week, so the new Hub 5 connection is 100% the issue.

Can anyone suggest anything else to try?

Not really good enough that this is an ongoing issue with the amount of people working from home these days.

Maybe they whitelisted your IP to where your connecting too?

Try hub in modem mode by wire

  • Thanks. I should correct my original post to mention that the connection to the VPN itself works, but I'm unable to access any of the environments the VPN is used to connect to.

Will try modem mode and see if that works, please could you explain why modem mode would make a difference as opposed to trying the same connection via wi-fi?

If the VPN connects then maybe its DNS try changing that

Use of Modem mode avoids VM Child Safe that does block VPN ( disable in the Online a/c ) also Smart Security a DNS redirector - disable in the VM Connect app.

Hi, I am having the same problem and wondering if you solved the issue. Thanks!

The original concern was the VPN Connects  but access to the work environments fails.
That does not come across as an ISP issue.

More one of the VPN connecting and then failing to have the required platform access.
A matter for the firm's IT support to resolve.

At the end of the day,  VM do not support VPN setups.  Having said that, I never had any trouble using a works VPN when I needed to, but was in modem mode as always.  Then again, that was with a Hub 3 at that time.

Hi Hysteria86 thanks for your post although we're sorry to hear of your concerns raised.

As has been mentioned in this thread, we do not support VPN's purely for the reason we do not interfere in them, or throttle a service to them for example.

We'd advise please speaking to your work's IT department for further assistance and hopefully they'll be able to provide a fix for this.

      Many thanks
