Hi, I’m considering changing from Sky broadband to Virgin Media. I’ll likely be going for the M250 package so will probably get the hub 3. I’ll want to connect my current mesh system to the hub and then turn wifi off on the hub. My question is can I access the hub to turn wifi on and off wirelessly or do I need to connect a computer to the hub via an Ethernet cable as VM state ? I can access my Sky router wirelessly to do this so would be hoping to do the same with the VM hub 3.
You can do this over WiFi however I wouldn’t recommend it. Any Admin work on any Hub should be done wired. When you turn the Hubs WiFi off how are you going to manage it?
Hi, thanks for replying. I would have been hoping to connect to the hub using my iPad . I don’t have a PC with which I can connect by Ethernet. Like I said I can log into my sky router using the iPad and turn wifi on and off. How I can connect back into it once I have turned off wifi I’m not sure but I can. So, hoped I could do the same with the VM hub.
You could always get an Ethernet adapter for the iPad if needed?
I didn’t think of that. Didn’t realise such a thing was available. Just looked on Amazon they’re only about £12. That’s the way to do it then. Thank you Adduxi problem solved.
I have a Hub 3, I do not manage it via Wi-Fi because it will drop the admin session and lock you out.
Also assume you have disabled Wi-Fi and taken the Hub 3 into modem mode - now how will you connect to manage it if there are any issues ?
Perhaps more important than how to manage the VM Hub, is how to migrate from Sky to VM.
VM install delays are very common. Installation snags can result in many months of delay.
Do not cancel the Sky services until the VM connection has been installed and working for a month.
Having dual ISP services is a lot easier to deal with than ending up with no home broadband for an open ended period.
Hi, thanks for replying. I don’t have a PC with an Ethernet port to allow me to connect to the hub that way but another member on the community suggested an Ethernet adapter for my iPad, which I think would be the best way to do it.
Once installed I was hoping to make a decision on keeping VM broadband within the 14 day cooling off period. If I give it a month like you suggest and there are snags it’s then too late to pull out. Would you not think that if all seems well by the 14th day then everything is ok? I suppose if I’m doubtful by that 14th day I’d have to cancel. In your experience then installation isn’t always straight forward?
You choose the cut off points . Just don't leave yourself without a broadband connection.
If your installation is proposed as self install, make sure the VM cables are present and look to be in good order inside and outside. If there is any doubt have an engineer install.
