How do I actually get gig2?

I'm in the process of upgrading my package to gig2, as I'm an xgs pon customer I know this is available and am just awaiting the engineer change over but my question is - how tf do I get that speed? As an xgs pon customer I'm forced to use the hub 5x (5 is coax only) which has 4 gig ports and 1 10gig, however the 10 gig is disabled (I'm told this is disabled by default), meaning my only options are the 4 gig ports which will limit me to 1gig, or the built in wifi which sucks, and crops out around 600 meg. As I understand it, this would make it physically impossible for anyone to use gig2 so how do I use it

I doubt that info is accurate or it would be pointless to have 2Gb/s and Ireland now have 5Gb/s (not sure if they use the HUB5X)

  • Certainly modem mode is disabled on the 5x. The 10 Gbps port should work for direct ethernet connections. Out of interest how will make use of the speed upgrade (if you ever get it)?

What you mean 10Gb is disabled? guess you have a faulty hub

you will need a NIC that 2.5Gb or better with good cables

The lady from virgin told me that port is disabled by default but as stated, that makes it impossible to go beyond 1 gig so I'm hoping someone with 2 gig can tell me how they use it

She's talking nonsense because VM does offer 2Gbps.

Assuming you have a Hub 5x why tf have you not tested the 10GB/s port to see if it is working ?
