Dhcp client on WAN Vlan fails on Mikrotik to virgin router as a modem

Hi there, I have set up a vlan (vid99) for the WAN connection on my mikrotik router and trunked through 2 switches to the switch connected to the Virgin router in modem mose. I've set up a dhcp client on Vlan 99 which is part of the bridge with other Vlans.
Problem is, I can't connect to the Internet. When I reboot the Virgin Media router (in modem mode) the dhcp client gets an address 192.168.100.20 then rebinds after 20 or seconds but fails to get an external address and just 'searching' indefinitely.
I tried this with a Windows laptop connected to the Virgin modem and it also got the 192.168.100.20 but this time after 20 seconds it rebinds and it does get the WAN IP.

To me it looks like a problem with the Dhcp client attached to vlan99, but wondering if it's something on Virgin side, I. E. Dhcp options for the client, any ideas appreciated, pulling my hair out here.

If your getting the 192.168.100.xx IP then it should get a WAN IP how ever you only get one so your VLAN setup untag from router to hub must not have any other devices trying to get a IP on that VLAN

As you have a WAN IP by laptop you can copy its MAC to router WAN and that will work

Thank you VM for taking a way edit🙁

VM in modem mode only allows one source MAC for one WAN IP

  • Thank you for replies, nothing else should be getting an ip from vlan 99, it's the only port untagged for it. I will check the dhcp and arp table however. I will try using the windows mac too.
