cannot connect to this network (5ghz)

I just bought a new laptop. When I try to connect to the 5ghz network it just keeps saying, cannot connect to this network. I contacted the manufacturer and after no joy with all their help took it back to the store. They tested it on their 5ghz network and it connected. They also connected it to a different  5ghz network and that connected too. I think one was Orange and the other 3g. However after trying again it still won't connect. It does connect using 2.4 network. I have reset the router twice and made sure all my input of passwords are correct. The router is some years old so I was wondering if this may be the problem.

Are any other device in your house connected to the 5GHz signal of the VM Hub,
or are they all now using the 2.4Ghz band ?

Yes. Mobile and tablets will connect to the 5ghz network

        Hi Mikey1209,

Thanks for taking the time to contact us via the Community. It's lovely having you on board with us in the Forums.

We're sorry to hear you've been having some issues trying to connect to the 5Ghz network on your new device. If the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks are split, it would suggest you've done this manually and there some of the settings may not be compatible with the new device. It's worth playing about with these to see if this allows the device to connect.

We would always advise to leave the networks synced so your connection can automatically switch between the 2 to create a seamless connection.

As other devices are connecting, this would rule out the issue being with the network itself and related to the new device and compatibility settings instead so our help on this is very much limited I'm afraid.

        Thanks,

Wi-Fi security modes affect some devices.

We operate our VM Hub in WPA2-PSK only mode for greatest compatibility.

Some devices reject any Wi-Fi service that contains the old WPA-PSK mode,
other devices fail to connect when the much newer WPA3-SAE mode is present.

Exactly when the OP is explicitly testing establishing a 5Ghz connection merging the SSIDs is unhelpful
as that looses the ability to configure the device to use the desired 5Ghz Wi-Fi band.

The customers here are more likely to help solve your problem than the Forum Team.  However, to be able to help you properly, we need information - specifically your WiFi settings in the Hub (which Hub model).  Screenshots will do though they take a couple of hours for publication approval.
