Can I use and old router but just reconfigure it?

Hello

so I’ve just moved into a rented house which has two old VM boxes, and I am now waiting a week or so for a new box to come, I can connect to the old router but it will not connect to the internet (I’m guessing because the new router will be already configured with a new plan). I was just wondering if I can change any settings on the router to allow access to the internet. I have connected and tried 192.168.0.1 however I’m not very well knowledged when it comes to routers and broadband.

cheers

Eliot

The hub has a cable modem, so it can only be used with VM. The existing hub doesn't work because it's been deactivated.

Most people use a "regular" router which works with Openreach's network, and often supplied by their ISP such as BT or Sky.

  • Hey Eliotj1678, thank you for reaching out and a warm welcome to the community, thank you for your question today.

No the router you have found will not work sorry, this is because our routers are registered to the account not the house sorry.

VM hubs are registered to your account AND your account to the premises. That’s the reason why you cannot take your hub to another location.
