Burglar Alarm signal on Hub 5

We have had the same home alarm for 3 years. It can connect to the internet so we can set and unset it remotely. We agreed an annual fee on installation to keep this option going and it has worked fine. The montoring system is run by Pyronix.

Recently, the installer that we bought it from sold out to another company, so we went to Pyronix who were able to link us directly to them and the switch over went perfectly for about a week. Then, 2 days age, when we tried to set the alarm remotely we got a signal saying that the Security system is not connected to the cloud, please check your internet connection. The internet connection is fine throughout the house for all devices.

Pyronx, who have been as helpful as they can be, say there can be problems with virgin routers and we might have to change the hub settings to allow 2.4 and 5GHz settings. But I still can't understand why the same system linked with no proble up until 2 days ago.

I have the instructions on how to do this but have seen other posts where people have tried doing this and had problems with the signal throught the house. I have tried resetting the wi-fi link in the alarm key pad and tried switching the router on and off.

So is resetting the router th only option?

Thanks

After a lot of effort using the instructions Virgin sent, I still couldn't access the pages I needed. Finally, I phoned for help. I have to say, the two guys I spoke to were both brilliant ( my phone battery on my landline ran out half way through the first call so I had to call back). They talked me through the process live as I work on the tablet. I can't speak highly enough of both of them.

Recurrent Wi-Fi and DHCP failures in Router mode are a known fault of
    Hub 5 with Sept 2025 software version : LG-RDK_11.6.2-2410.1

Folks with the Hub 5 in Modem mode and a 3rd party Wi-Fi Router are not affected.

Hub 5 is the most recent type of hub. Hubs 4 and 3 are also still in use. Examples below

      https://www.virginmedia.com/help/how-to/broadband/hub-lights

If you want to use your own networking equipment, you put the hub into modem mode and connect your own router etc. Modem mode disables the router and wifi functions of the hub. The hub acts only as a means to connect your own equipment to the VM network.

Many choose to install their own networking equipment to bypass issues and limitations of VM hubs.

Are the remote access and notification features of your home alarm solely dependent on a wireless connection between the alarm panel and a VM hub?

What model of VM hub are you using?

Do you use the VM app?

It means your either going to be unhappy to get your own Wifi router to deal with VM poor router mode or your happy to do just that.

Your alarm hasn’t lost Wi‑Fi — the VM hub has changed how it handles 2.4 GHz devices or outbound connections. Pyronix devices only use 2.4 GHz and VM’s Hub sometimes merges the bands or blocks the long‑lived cloud session. Split the Wi‑Fi bands, give 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz separate names and turn off Channel Optimisation. Now connect to your newly-named 2.4 Ghz band.

Whilst it is fresh in your mind, write down the process i.e. the steps.
Take screen shots of anything that is important.

It is amazing how tricky it can be ( for me !!! ) to recall this kind of process if it
is a task that I have to do only very occasionally.

  • Get your installer to hardwire the connection. Thrives are getting very clever and using WiFi jammers. If someone really wanted to cause havoc they could cut the cable that enters the property. Perhaps put some decoy cable to mask the real one?
