Broadband throttling speed on devices?

Disclaimer: I am not the account holder, just going on the forum to ask.

So my house has just had Virgin TV, broadband and phone installed today. We took M500 broadband, and have connected our devices to it. However, we have noticed that every device we have appears to be getting different speeds. My phone for example gets 250 mbps, whereas my Nintendo switch seems to get only 10. Does the hub intentionally give different speeds to different devices? Wondering if I could have some info on this.

    No, the speeds over wireless (I assume) are based on several factors including, but not limited to:

    • Distance from HUB.
    • Obstacles between device and HUB.
    • Other wireless networks causing interference.
    • Device capability.
    • Device being connected to the 2.4 or 5Ghz band.

    If you access the HUB on 192.168.0.1 in a web browser, sign in, and access the 'Connected Devices' section, it will display the connected speed of each device. Around 2/3 of this connected speed gives a rough idea what download speed to expect.

    Don't expect one VM Hub to be sufficient to cover a family home.
    Consider a Wi-Fi Mesh or similar as a very good investment.

    Games consoles will always perform poorly over WiFi unless they get a very strong signal. Even then they will never be as good as on a wired ethernet connection.
