Another Port Forwarding Problem

First off, I am trying to forward to a webserver from my Hub 3 (router mode) behind a nginx proxy which works perfectly with a third-party router and modem mode, that third-party router keeps disconnecting itself from the internet and needs replacing though, in the meantime I'm stuck using the Virgin hub.

My required ports are set in port forwarding, 80/443, and a management port for the proxy, these show closed on online port scanners, nothing is routed through.

I have turned off UPNP, the firewall, I've used my old router as an AP and DHCP server and also used the default Virgin hub DHCP server (not at same time), I've tried with reserving an address for the webserver (although it doesn't show as a connected device on the initial hub summary page when I do, it does ping though) and I have tried without reservation.

I've spent a few hours attempting this now and probably have tried every conceivable way, nothing works, so the simple question is, is it even possible to port forward anymore? it used to 'work' a few years back.

We have a Hub 3 in Router mode.

Our Epson Printer is on 192.xxx.x.5 a static IP that is below the Hub 3 DHCP start range so a Reserved IP is not required.   ( where xxx.x = 168.0 as you imagined )

If create a Port Forwarding rule mapping 192.xxx.x.5, ports 80:80 to 80:80, Both, On

I can access the Epson web menu externally, I used a VPN to a central EU exit point just to be sure it was a remote access and not a local loop back which the Hub 3 will do giving the illusion of working.

    Our Hub 3 has :
+ Firewall in the default settings
    +UPnP Enabled
    +DHCP Enabled

With router mode who knows? the way of the internet is slowly going down the toilet.

Best get a new router before VM makes things worse

  • Hello NobleOx.

Sorry to hear you're having issues with Port Forwarding.

This is not something we have any support for within Virgin Media.

Although we do allow it to happen. It is mostly the 3rd party side of this that causes the error.
