new V6 (duo?) box - Fast Forward problem

My V6 box started showing the "green screen of death" recently, and when I requested help I stressed I was NOT willing to move to a new 360 box.  The engineer called, said the box was dead and a new box was needed that could operate as a V6 or a V360, depending on account settings.  I had the new box fitted and it was still on V6 settings.  I thought that was it, and I went through the Help and Settings menus to get my preferencess set up.  However.....

Despite me not wanting to have a Pin number each time I access cop dramas, and having set the appropriate setting, this still occurs.  A minor irritant, but it's there.

A worse one comes when watching a recording!

I used to be able to fast-forward through adverts, seeing the adverts and thus knew when to press "play".  Now all I get are a frozen screen, the symbols for FF, and a timer moving through the recording.  I have no way of knowing when to press play, so it's guesswork, or suffer a few minutes of adverts.  I can find no setting to get the new box working like the old one!

Anybody any ideas?

Turn off the power at the socket, wait 20 seconds and power on again. Does this fix your problem?

Yeah, you've had a V6 installed which you can software convert to a TV360 if you so wish. V6 refers to the box running TiVo-firmware, TV360 refers to Horizon-firmware. The two are different.

I suspect you're referring largely to the mandatory-daytime-protection PIN, which is Ofcom-mandated for certain content. On the basis that this is not the case, do you have any specific examples of programmes that are requesting a PIN?

Can you post a photo of the fast-forwarding options you're referring to? Use the camera-symbol on your reply, to upload a photo.

As an old guy without a camera, I can't post a picture, but it's simply the fast forward symbol(s) (dependant on how fast the fast forwarding you are doing), superimposed on top of the still picture of the program you are watching, then the timer bar at the bottom progressing.  You then stop, press play, and find you have missed the adverts and a few minutes of the program!

Just checked the few (new box with the old box taking all my recordings, series links etc to V6box heaven with it).

Neither FF issue or PIN request seem to affect the sport I've taped, but both affect "FBI Most Wanted".  I have set a lot of programs tonight, and will update here tomorrow with the results.

There is (and was) a setting under Parental Controls to Request a PIN to watch recordings after 9pm.  I am the only resident, so that is set to "Off".  It never affected FBI Most Wantyed and other programs before, just with this new box - with the same settings.

If it is a new V6 box the default setting also offers streamed On Demand content as well as broadcast channels in the programme listings. On Demand does not have the FF facilities of any broadcast recordings you make.

Most of the Sky channels now broadcast post watershed content during the day on the condition that the PIN cannot be turned off. This is a decision by the TV regulators OFCOM, & not the broadcasters or Virgin. As with the current Online Safety Bill, it matters not if there are no kids in the house they still don't trust you.

      Hey Oldfogi,

Welcome to the Community, and thanks for taking the time to post here on the forums. I’m sorry to hear of the issues that you’re experiencing with your TV box. The way FF and Rewind work now is different; you will no longer see the adverts end or the program start again.

Regarding the PIN number, as japitts stated, this is an Ofcom regulation for the PIN to be asked for before 9 pm for any shows that would normally be broadcast after the 9 pm watershed.

      Kind Regards,

      Steven_L

The V6's Series Link+ merges recordings on the hard drive with links to catch‑up or on-demand content. Recordings play instantly from the hard drive but catch‑up or on-demand always takes a bit longer - and not at all if your broadband is down - and you'll see a splash logo if an app is launched.

The ability to fast-forward is always possible with recordings but for catch‑up or on-demand content it depends on the broadcaster’s rights and app integration. This is why it's a good idea to record if you can.
