5GHz channel keeps dropping

Over the past few weeks, the 5 GHz keeps dropping connectivity with the internet. It’s happening at least once a day and it affects all devices. The 2.4 GHz is fine so I switch across and carry on as normal.

I’ve performed  factory reset of the hub but it’s not made any difference.

Does anyone have any suggestions? The channels are split for a reason so I don’t want to merge them.

Make sure the 5GHz channel are on a fixed Wi-Fi channel that is not a DFS channel.
    E.g. try channels 36 or 44  i.e. not "Auto".

Both channels are set to manual and then the default ones. 5GHz is 44, can’t remember for 2.4 GHz.

  • Not sure if it’s related but had issues with LAN connections where they just stopped working. That’s why I did the factory reset. It wasn’t for this channel issue.

Take a look at the Hub's Router Status status tabs, the Downstream and Upstream tabs may provide a clue to signal level or error problems.

For us the Log tab is always full of entries ( read noise ) even when the service is working normally.

I've just had a problem where I lost the 5Ghz signal. I discovered that rebooting the hub would bring up the 5Ghz signal for around 30 seconds (allowing devices to connect) before it would disappear again. Rebooted 3 or 4 times (including once where I physically switched the hub off and back on using the power switch) and it did the same each time. I tried disabling and re-enabling the 5Ghz wifi and re-booting again but that had no effect. In desperation I disabled channel optimisation and clicked apply and then immediately re-enabled channel optimisation and clicked apply and without re-booting the 5Ghz wifi appeared and all devices connected. It has now been solid and working fine for 10 minutes.

For better stability disable the Channel Optimisation and then select manual non DFS channels for 5GHz.
