Volt falsely used to upgrade our fibre speed

We recently (5/9/25) took out an o2 sim which we realised because we have our fibre with virgin that would mean we are eligible to get the Volt benefits to double the sim data and double our fibre speed.

Yesterday evening we got confirmation that the sim data had been doubled via volt but we’ve had nothing about the fibre. We went to check online and it said our connection is VOLT 500mb. This is incorrect. We re-contracted our fibre in June. We were on the 300 package and paid extra to upgrade to the 500 package.

However, having just been on the live chat it appears we’ve been scammed. Because the person who re-contracted us has used Volt they’re saying we’ve already got the benefits. That means where as we upgrade from 300 to 500 and paid for the benefits, it’s a lie. They’ve actually downgraded us to 250 then illegally used volt to up to the package to 500! Which now means that we can’t get the Volt we are owed, and our package we signed up for wasn’t a deal at all, as they’ve charged us more money and then down graded us from 300 to 200!

What can we do about this? This seems completely illegal

  • Hey Mitchbenny, thank you for reaching out and we are so sorry to hear about your volt upgrade.

You can only get the free speed upgrade once so if you've had this in the past you wouldn't get this again.

To confirm you've had it before?

"...Because the person who re-contracted us has used Volt they’re saying we’ve already got the benefits."

You can only be volted once, but, if they had used VOLT to give you the upgrade originally on the VM side, then an O2 SIM should have been sent to you, which would negate the need for you to then sign up to O2, unless you needed an additional SIM which in your case, you only wanted one SIM.

So basically, from what you stated, they 'volted' your VM package, and didn't send the SIM, yet it was paid for under your VM package deal as you paid extra. You then took an O2 SIM out which you probably didn't need had the original SIM been sent. Only VM can sort this one out :)

  • Very odd. Did you already have an O2 sim registered to your VM address when you recontracted in June?
