V6 to 360 upgrade
I have a V6 box and thinking of upgrading to 360. I gather this is a software upgrade and not a change of hardware. Does this still mean I will lose my recorded content on the box?

I bet before long the 360 will be phased out for the virgin stream that lacks some freeview channels and recording option
Unfortunately as much as a like my Freeview recorder and channels, those days are numbered. The march to IPTV seems inevitable …
Do your research before doing this. The 360 lacks a lot of the Tivo functions. Far from an 'upgrade' , you might find its the opposite, with no way back. ( and yes it will wipe all your recordings). A lot of customers have regretted the ' upgrade'.
It's not a change of hardware, but... V6 run TiVo-software, TV360 runs Horizon-software. The two are completely & fundamentally different, and the conversion involves a reformat of your box. Everything is lost - series links, recordings, the lot.
Imagine converting your Windows laptop to the Linux operating system, for a comparison. By means of a headline view...
TiVo-software is very recording-centric, with streaming add-on. TV360 is very online-centric with recording retrofitted. There are many functional differences between the two platforms, but approach from a viewpoint of recording versus online, and you won't go far wrong.
Thanks for the very informative reply. That answers my question. However, I have a very full hard drive on my V6 and I would rather Virgin tell us how to export all the recordings to a USB stick so we can either watch them from the USB stick or re-import them after the change. Now wouldn't that be a useful thing to do? It looks like it will be a very long time before I can do the "upgrade" that I am not sure I really want to be honest.
Fundamentally TiVo & Horizon are totally incompatible software platforms, thus transferring recordings is not going to happen. Secondly, VM's TV recording boxes are designed for short-term timeshift viewing and not long-term archiving.. so there has never been any mechanism for exporting or "backing-up" recordings (if you discount the old SD-only Scart connection on the legacy TiVo).
VM's response to losing recordings when migrating firmware, has always been to seek the programmes via OnDemand & streaming platforms.
One of the main functional gains of TV360 is the Disney+ & Paramount+ apps, which will never be on V6. If those matter to you, it's a no-brainer. Beyond that, there's been countless debates on this board and probably a few more yet to come.
