V6 box restarting all the time

Hi all

Recently my v6 box just switches itself off and goes back to the welcome screen and then starting up screen until it comes back on. The has increased in frequency to 3 times a night now and sometimes not even restarting at all. Any suggestions

  • Hi alison20

Any box that keeps restarting needs replacing.  You can contact faults (option 2)  when dialling 150 from a VM landline, or  0345 454 1111 from any other phone.

Or wait a day or two and a member of the Forum Team should pick this up for you and arrange a tech visit.

You could also try the following.  Turn of the V6 at the wall switch;  then on the box  hold down both the power button and the - (minus) button which is on the front of the box at the same time. Then turn on the V6 again whilst keep hold of those buttons for a further 30 seconds. The box should then hopefully boot up normally  If that doesn't work then use the same method but substitute the minus button for the + (plus) button

I had the same issue a month or so ago. If it is a failed firmware update, the above described method ( it is the + button, not -) should cause the update to reinstall & recover the box to a stable state ( minus the recordings & most of your settings). If it fails then it is probably an HDD failure & the box will have to be swapped.
