Work Virgin tv box without coaxial cable input

Hi everyone,

I have a bit of a problem I am trying to find a solution to. I have had virgin media package for the last few years, all working fine. I recently built a summerhouse in the garden and put a quality Samsung tv. During the build, power and an ethernet cable were pulled into the summerhouse, so from my virgin media router I have a cat6 cable running to new router in the summerhouse, giving me hardwired broadband and WiFi. Unfortunately, when I called Virgin media to get a new box, they told me it needed the coaxial cable input to operate it, they didn't do a wireless box like Sky do. There is no easy way for me to run a cable from house to summerhouse now (about a 45m run!), so my question is, is there a way with my current set up, would I be able to get a virgin media box working in the summerhouse with live tv?

Would a rj45 to coaxial cable running from my new router to my virgin tv box work?

Can I buy some sort of device that would take the virgin media coaxial input from my home, run through the cat6 cable going to the router in the summerhouse, then give out the correct signal for the virgin box to work?

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks everyone 🙏

I don’t use VM TV anymore but they do the WiFi/Ethernet connected Flex streaming box for £5 pm?. I’m not sure what the requirements are to be able to get one?  Of course there are other non VM streaming options as well.

    Hi Robert1967

If you don't already have any additional VM TV boxes then you might be able to add a Stream (Flex) TV box for an additonal £10 per month. This particalar box streams the live TV over IP and has only just been introduced as an add on for single box V6 and TV360 customers so not all agents are aware of it yet.

You could add one of the normal TV360 boxes without the coaxial connection, however it would only really be good enough for On Demand and Catch Up services. Since you need the coaxial connection for live TV services on these boxes you could start a recording of the program you are wanting to watch in  the summerhouse on your main VM set top box and then go to recordings on the box in the summerhouse and play it back.

You could also use the TVGo app on a laptop/computer and connect it using an HDMI cable  to the TV in your summerhouse to play back the live program from most TV channels.
