Virgin TV with different router

Hi 

we have just moved to Virgin BB but still have Sky Q. I’m exploring moving to Virgin TV and getting 2 mini boxes too. My question is would this work with a different router to the main box? Our BB hub is not streaming WiFi it’s just provides the Ethernet for our router to connect to. 
My ideal set up would be to connect the main 360 box via Ethernet to our router and then the extra boxes connect via the WiFi provided by our router.

will that work or does it all have to be connected to the hub direct?

    You have to have a superhub for VirginMedia but you can put it in 'modem mode' and plug your own router into it to achieve what you want.

    It will work fine, a large amount of users just use modem mode.

    To add, I use a V6 which runs TiVo-software rather than Horizon-software, but the connectivity requirements are identical.

    I use the exact same setup you have. SH provides the external connectivity, single Ethernet to my own router which provides onward connectivity to every device. V6 is one of the Ethernet-connected devices.

      will the extra boxes working off WiFi connect to the router ok? 
      our Sky mini boxes were a nightmare as when connected via WiFi they created their own mesh which just led to lots of connection issues

    All your TV360 boxes will need 3 connections.

    1: Incoming co-ax provides the live broadcast TV feed

    2: Internet connection for OnDemand, streaming & various updates

    3: HDMI to your TV

      Really?

      that may be a problem then as I have no co-ax where the extra boxes will be. I just assumed they connected to the main box via Ethernet or WiFi

    You won't be the first to assume this, but you've fortunately realised in good time. All TV360 boxes receive their broadcast TV channels via co-ax. You should request a manned engineer install in order for the cabling & connections to be installed wherever you need them.

    Your only alternative is the VM Stream service which receives broadcast channels over the internet, but is limited to one single box and has no recording facilities.

      Appreciate your advice, I think we may need to stick with Sky then as one of our boxes is in an outbuilding in our garden so no chance of a co-ax down there

    I think you can get VM to check whether the distance to the outbuilding will be OK for a coaxial run.
