Virgin TV 360 upgrade?

I have received an email from VM stating: "Just a heads up that the Virgin TV box you currently have is using old software, which means you aren’t getting the most out of your services.
The good news is, we can upgrade you to a new Virgin TV 360 box at no extra cost."

As far as I am aware, I already have a  Virgin TV 360 box - I have the leaflets which came with it describing it as such. So I was wondering whether this was an invitation to upgrade the software (though I thought that VM was able to do that remotely). None of the links/instructions in the email seems to enable me to update the software.

Is VM's email just a mistake?

    If the hand controller has a voice function, it's a 360. Otherwise it's still a V6.

The 'upgrade' is VM's description, other opinions vary.

    Very Insightful Person

There's photos of the different TV boxes at https://www.virginmedia.com/care/tv-fault/which-tv-box- both TiVo & V6 run TiVo-firmware, the difference is the hardware. TV360 & V6 both use the same hardware but run different software & have a different remote.

The Horizon-software that TV360 runs is very online-centric & app-driven, with recording retrofitted for the UK. The TiVo-firmware that a V6 runs is very recording-focused with streaming apps added.

The email you've received is a very common one, and it's part of a marketing drive to encourage existing TiVo & V6 users to migrate from TiVo-software to Horizon-software. TiVo users get a box-swap, V6 users get a software conversion.

The two software platforms are very different, with some substantial functional variations.

      Thank you for the responses.

I've now had an email reading: "Thanks for your Virgin TV 360 upgrade request. Please note it may take up to 7 days for us to process your order." So it looks as though clicking the "Upgrade now"   buttons in the original email did have some effect.

I'll wait and see what now happens but it would be helpful if someone at VM could please check whether there may have been a mistake.

        Knows their stuff

        If you have a 360, and they now upgrade you to a V6, you've got a result  ! 😀
